Navajo Sterling Silver Sugilite Cross Necklace

A large sterling silver cross with a sugilite 3/4" bezel set cabochon in the center. The cross is 2 1/2" tall and 1 5/8" wide. Included is a thick twisted sterling rope chain 24" around. The back is signed ET. These are the initials of Navajo Ervin Tsosie.

Sugilite is a rare gemstone discovered by a Japanese geologist Ken-ichi Sugi in the late 1940's originally discovered in Iwagi Islet, Japan. Sugilite forms in volcanic rock and has also been mined in Africa, as well as other small mines. Sugilite is said to have healing properties. The heart of this cross is the perfect place for sugilite.
